Malibu ~ no matter how you experience this wonderful, unique town, you’re sure to have a memorable, delightful experience.
Malibu Pier At the Center of It All!
With its iconic twin white towers, the Malibu Pier is the most well-known landmark in Malibu. Come for the Sun – stay for the fun!
Once the Pier supplied the entire Rancho Malibu – Long before Malibu was a hot surf spot or a hotbed of enclaves for the rich and famous – it was one large ranch.
These days, One Gun Ranch, nestled in the canyons above Malibu, continues the farming tradition while employing Earth-friendly “biodynamic” techniques. @Onegunranch.
One Gun Ranch brings its sustainable products to the Pier with The Ranch at the Pier ~ an eclectic celebration of ranching life, surfing life, fishing life, healthy lifestyles, and, to the surprise of many Pier visitors – very chic, sustainable fashion. @RanchAtThePier.
@lairdhamilton. The establishment offers the upscale, exclusive Bamford line of organic products and luxury accessories from Alice Bamford, who founded The Ranch at The Pier. Check out the Arbor skateboards and apparel, Harbour surfboards, and local surfing legend Laird Hamilton’s activewear.
The brand believes in living consciously and in harmony with nature and has sustainability and craftsmanship at its core. Like much of Malibu, Alice Bamford – whose family owns and operates the organic behemoth Daylesford in the Cotswolds as well as One Gun Ranch near Malibu – believes that we need to slow down our pace, be mindful of the footprints that we make, and take care of the Earth that provides for us.
Looking for a souvenir for that very special someone? The store exemplifies Malibu’s ethos, with high-end, specially curated items not found anywhere else, items that are sustainable, beautiful, and, although understated, make big statements!
Try to Catch a Big One
Consider lingering on the Pier a little more. Try your hand at ocean fishing from the Pier. That’s right! The Ranch at the Pier has bait and tackle too! In Summer, the awesome angling season peaks with halibut, thresher shark & bat rays, while corbina and mackerel are year-round catches.
Oceanside Dining at its Best
Visit one of the two eateries on the Pier – Malibu Farm Restaurant & Bar & Malibu Farm Pier Cafe – both venues feature organic, local cuisine curated by Helene Henderson. The Farm offers dining in both an outdoor, on-the-water venue and an elegant dining room that offers beautiful ocean views. At the same time, the Pier Cafe is more casual, offering indoor and ocean dining as well.
If you need a pick-me-up, the Farm’s Espresso bar window is open from 9 a.m. and serves artisanal coffee from the ever-popular Caffe Luxxe. @CaffeLuxxe. To view the full menu, visit malibu-farm.com. Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the year. Malibu T: 310-456-8031.
Malibu Farmers Market – Fresh, Fast & Fun
Every Sunday, local farmers and artisans feature fresh, organic foods and creations. @MalibuFarmersMarket. There’s an outdoor cafe to enjoy ready-to-eat cuisine, organic fruits and veggies, and free-range eggs. Sundays, 10 am. to 3 p.m. 23555 Civic Center Way, Malibu. There’s no telling who you might see, catching the greatest eats for a healthy week ahead.
Catch Malibu’s (Unofficial) Sunday Morning Car Show
There’s nothing finer than seeing an awesome Ferrari F8 Spider, McLaren 720S, or Porsche Panamera casually driving down the PCH. On Sunday mornings, car connoisseurs gather in front of Malibu Kitchen and Howdy’s. You’ll often see the likes of Spike Feresten and Jay Leno leaning under the hood of a Porsche talking shop. It’s fun viewing, but one must be mindful of the patrol officer’s guidelines concerning crowd control measures. Stop in at Malibu Kitchen for the best bagels and pastries in town ~ it’s Malibu’s answer to a New York deli.
Take a Surf or SUP Lesson
Malibu Surf Shack offers to Stand Up Paddle lessons, surf lessons, and surf camps. @MalibuSurfShack.
Overlooking the iconic Surfrider Beach, the Shack is a go-to source for excellent lessons. While you’re there, pick up one of The Shack’s original Shaka hoodies – Comfy and cozy & curated by The Shack, they’re the perfect thing to keep you warm and dry before and after your lesson.
If you’re in West Malibu, stop by Trancas Country Mart, a quaint center situated on the north side of the PCH between exclusive Broad Beach and famed surfer haven Zuma Beach. There, Drill Surf & Skate can take care of all your surfing needs, including board rentals and lessons. @DrillSurfandskate.
Shop . . . Shop . . . Shop

Malibu is a shopping mecca! From exclusive shops like Chrome Hearts, with exclusive jewelry lines and excellent customer service & James Perse’s upscale fashion & accessories for men and women from the namesake designer, to Barefoot Dreams’s cozy ensembles, the town is replete with fashionistas enjoying shopping excursions. For little people in your life, stop by Toy Crazy and enjoy wonderful toys and dolls.
@ChromeHearts;@JamesPerse;@BarefootDreams;@ToyCrazy. For a unique Malibu shopping experience, go to The Malibu Colony Company, a venue flush with unique gift items and jewels. There, you’ll find one-of-a-kind gems designed by jeweler Roman Paul (@roman_paul_design). Paul’s distinctive creative beauties stun. A ring, evoking an Enso circle’s effect, bursts with a delicate bud, launching a mesmerizing vision evoking a joyous, celebratory dance, and finishes with intricate details that intrigue. A necklace with Paul’s signature cross, set in a stellar silver chain, dangles fluidly across a gentleman’s chest. A pair of earrings, ethereal and enticing, nestle against a lady’s earlobes. It’s all so very exquisite! It’s hard to select a favorite. It’s all so wonderfully Malibu!
Enjoy Coffee & Gelato
Joules & Watts, a boutique coffee roaster, sits niched between shops in Malibu Village. The venue curates the tastiest latte’s, affogato & teas. You cannot leave this venue without trying one of the pastries! Or, a gelato ~ the butterscotch/rosemary is intriguing with an interesting finish. But . . . you may have to visit more than once to enjoy all of the intriguing, unique flavors.
Make sure to take home some coffee. Select from Finca Pachuj Atitlan Guatemalan, Dukunde Kawa Musasa Rwanda, or Yoner Celis Guerrero San Jose de Lourdes Peru ~ any of those choices will impress even the most discerning coffee aficionado. @Joules&Watts.
Catch a Picture Perfect Sunset
Impress your date by going for cocktails and eats at The Sunset Restaurant, right on Zuma Beach – Valet Parking is available, or try your hand at parking along the beach – an exercise that is equivalent to an Olympic sport in Malibu! It’s all perfect at The Sunset Restaurant – the libations are first-rate, as is the cuisine. Ask for a window or patio table, soak in Nature’s evening farewell and end a perfect day in Malibu.
The See & Be Seen Scene
Nobu is the ideal venue to spot local celebrities and those visiting from afar ~. On the night, you’re bound to spot luminaries smiling graciously for the paparazzi whose cameras click incessantly.
The ocean-front cuisine is to die for! Local Malibuite & Michelin Star Executive Chef Gregorio Stephenson – lovingly referred to by regulars as “Chef G.” – prides himself in sharing Malibu vibes and the venue’s pristine seafood.
In addition to Nobu’s signature dishes, including Tiridato, Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno, and Black Cod with Miso, Chef G. has curated special dishes for Malibu Nobu Ribeye with Yuzu Butter Truffle Sauce, Kobe Beef with Crispy Shiitake Mushrooms and Heirloom Tomato New Style.
“Nobu is cuisine at the intersection of art, passion, and culinary technique,” culinary goddess Martha Stuart once quipped when describing Nobu. In Malibu, under Chef G’s tutelage, it is all of that and more.
