Father’s Day in Malibu

Once a year, we pause to celebrate Dads and all they do for our families. Malibu is the perfect place to give Dad the best Father’s Day ever!

Start his special day off terrifically by enjoying Malibu’s cuisine scene.  Moonshadows, an iconic Malibu seaside establishment with one of the best panoramic ocean views in Malibu, suggests that you give Dad a break from the barbecue and enjoy the venue’s specially curated brunch featuring a 3-course prix fixe menu

The first course provides soup, salad, and appetizer options ~ including the popular Pacific Seafood Chowder, replete with halibut, salmon, rock shrimp, clams, dill and creams. Appetizer options include the delicious Ginger Scented Dungeness Crab Parfait. Next, enjoy one of the master chefs’ specially curated entrees ~ sensational seafood and steaks ~ and, of course, a special dessert. Kids can order from an ala carte menu.  Signature cocktails are also available.

At $69, this experience is well-priced and will be one Dad won’t ever forget. Make reservations by calling: 310.456.3010 or online through Open Table.

After Brunch . . . What to do?

Why not get salty?

“Happy Father’s Day!” says Mitch Taylor, Manager of Becker Surf & Sport. “There’s nothing better than a surf in Malibu – come on into Becker and grab a board, wax, and all that you need and then, enjoy Father’s Day.”

Becker has a plethora of gift options for dads who skateboard or surf, including Go Pros, new boards, Stand up Paddles, carvers and an impressive selection of men’s clothing.  If Dad doesn’t surf ~ Buy him a lesson! What can be better than being on the water! @Beckersurf.

Leisurely Lounge on the Beach

Malibu offers a vast array of beaches to enjoy.  Consider visiting the bluff trails, ancient sand dunes & amazing views at Pt. Dume, located at Cliffside & Birdview. Or enjoy a beach picnic at Leo Carrillo State Park, which offers wonderful tide pools and sea caves and is equipped with charcoal grills and picnic tables. If you are coming to Malibu from L.A., allocate a little extra time to get to that beach as you must drive through all of Malibu ~ Enjoy the gorgeous coastline ~ it’s one-of-a-kind!

Go shopping in Malibu.

Get Dad some new threads! Cool Indie Shop Wittmore is niched in the Malibu Village ~ the men’s boutique offers culture-current stateside and international brands par excellence, including La Paz Natural Allegre cocktail short-sleeve shirts, Velva Sheen classic graphic tees, and Patagonia.

Get Dad some new kicks! There’s nothing more comfortable than slipping into VIBAe’s shoes that exemplify ergonomic comfort and casual class.

Ludovic (Ludo) and Tammy Malmoux, longtime Malibuites and longtime shoe industry professionals opened a flagship VIBAe store in Malibu Village.  Designed in Finland and manufactured in Portugal, the shoes feature a collapsible heel, a wonderful, foot-forming footbed affording cushioned comfort, and ~ lucky for beachgoers ~ the inserts can come out and the shoe itself can be washed in a washing machine and hung to dry.

“The soles are made from sustainable rubber trees,” Ludo says. “The linen on the top of the shoe is organically grown in France – the advantage of linen is that it is 30 percent more breathable than other fabrics and growing linen uses much less water than cotton.” @vibaemalibu

If you’re looking for something custom, head over to the Glamifornia Style Lounge who offers customizable sneakers for dad. Choose from vintage designer patterns or bring one your dad will love.

Libations!

Just in time for Father’s Day – join Jane Seymour, one of Malibu’s most distinguished residents, and purchase premium wines, all while giving to a good cause. Jane Seymour & Jean-Charles Boisset’s 2018 JCB Joy & Serenity North Coast Cabernet Sauvignon has vibrant black cherry flavors and baked berry cobbler, balanced with a hint of allspice and nutmeg ~ the wine is a soft wine with a plush mid-palate and a lingering finish.

Ten percent of every wine bottle you order will benefit Jane’s Open Hearts Foundation, a charity empowering emerging and growing nonprofit organizations who provide grants to charities on the frontlines serving the most vulnerable women and children.

Purchase a bottle or case of Joy & Serenity here.

If you’re looking to drink on the spot, try the Strange Family Vineyards wine tasting room in The Malibu Lumber Yard featuring Pinot Noir & Chardonnay from the family’s Santa Rita Hills estate. Sit back and relax on the Lumber Yard’s enormous wooden deck. @MalibuLumberYard.

Peek into one or both of the art galleries on property ~ Malibu Contemporary Art Gallery features Southern California works excellently curated by gallerist Lori Mills.

Song Word Gallery features art inspired by legendary songwriters’ lyrics, including Rock, Punk, Hip Hop, Country, Blues & Folk. Currently on show is Feverish Dreams: Art Inspired by Songs about Lust.

At the end of a Perfect Father’s Day, enjoy Malibu at night.  The city’s dark sky ordinance means one can more clearly view the stars ~ unless, of course, there is a marine layer.

Malibu is the perfect place to celebrate The June Solstice at 9:32 PST. on Father’s Day.

What a wonderful way to tell Dad he’s the shining star in the family!
